Review
of Marcy, live
--Marcy
Baruch is one of the most unique and inspiring songwriters I have ever
known. I have had the fortunate experience of hearing her live many
times. I find her music to be revolutionary as she draws in her audience
and holds them captivated for an entire evening. Her music invites,
travels, ascends and descends to depths unfathomed. She is entertaining
on many levels. Her music is honest, brave and beautifully leads its
listener to the content of lyrics that are poetic, arrangements that
are fresh and strong and a sharing that meets you head-on. Buy her CD
and sail with her! Watch for a chance to see her live. You'll go back
again and again. I can promise this. By Kate Gleason,

Review, Hathaway Smiles, Clearly / Live
--Marcy Baruch's first album, "Hathaway Smiles," lured
me in to Marcy's lyrical intellect and true warmth. I appreciate
her innate ability to articulate, to truly communicate her thoughts
vividly in images that I find poetic and purely beautiful. When I first
heard her perform live, about 3 years ago, I was completely drawn in.
"Every Time" and "The Tide" (popular tracks from
"Hathaway Smiles") were two of my early favorites. Marcy's
original music felt instantly familiar and just got better and sweeter
over time. She speaks truths of the human condition in arrangements
that are striking, thought provoking and simply present.
Her second
CD, "Clearly" also features some talented musicians (Joe Green,
cello; Scott Surine, bass guitars, harmony vocals; Dave Shapiro, electric
and pedal steel guitars, harmony vocals and more; Chris Filley, piano,
harmony vocals; and Todd Moore, drums and percussion) known as "The
Umbrella Band." I have spent a great deal of time with Marcy and
these gentleman over the past 3 years and think very highly of their
contributions to this album and to the Denver community. "London
Bridge" from "Clearly" has been a long time favorite
Marcy Baruch song of mine. I love Marcy's songs for the intimate, often
painful worlds they are. "This Road" is so much fun to follow
and gawd it feels great! It kicks ass! On a more personal note, I fell
in love a year ago. Deeply. Then I heard "Wait For Me" from
"Clearly" for the first time at Marcy's CD release concert
in October of 2001. This intoxicating song hits you where it hurts most.
The truth of my own experience of love for a man really brought this
song home for me. It was sheer poetic agony taking in the images Marcy's
voice created that night - of the loss, the death of this beloved person
-- this beautiful, beautiful thing becoming misery's unwilling sponge.
I felt the hopelessness. The ache. The song has such well-crafted musical
timing -- there is just enough "pregnant pause" between tender
pleas and yearning that my heart breaks every time I listen. Marcy has
crafted a deeply moving and tender piece we can all relate to on some
real and personal level with "Wait For Me."
Marcy's
remarkable ability to write the beauty she sees in life alongside writing
the unjust, the raw and the "brash" is one of her most notable
strengths. I think that is why her music has such an accessible quality
to it. I don't mean accessible in the empty, commercial sense, but in
the rich, rare and simple human way she speaks the truth. Marcy is a
truth speaker. Marcy has eyes to see. Marcy believes in music with her
entire being and writes it with such integrity, grit and such striking
lyrics that I know -- anyone listening knows -- she really wants us
to open our eyes and to feel deeply and purposely, with purpose. She
is the kind of singer/songwriter I savor. Marcy has a gift and we are
the fortunate ones...she's sharing it with us -- openly. By Kelly

Review
of Marcy, live
--Living
in Colorado, I've been fortunate enough to hear Marcy in concert several
times. This CD gives the listener a great feeling of what the concerts
are like -- everything from raucus, rockin' songs to ballads of strength
and mercy. She is by no means just a Colorado artist, but we're lucky
to be able to say we heard her first. She writes them, feels them, and
delivers them. Think you'll agree. By Michael Benidt,

Review, Clearly
--Marcy writes songs with witty, rich lyrics, that are beautifully
crafted- Even better to crank up & sing to!
There is a great variety of music packed into this CD-some beautiful
ballads, some rockin'fun songs and some great folksy/foot-stompin/fiddle
playin'/dancing tunes. Marcy's multifaceted musical talent, clever lyricism,
and magical, siren voice make this CD one of my favorites. The musicianship
is outstanding. A few favorites: London Bridge, This Road, Road to Westcliffe

--Marcy's music touches the soul. Her music refreshes the spirit
like a cool drink of water on a hot day. Her lyrics are down to earth
and identifiable. In a word - awesome. By Troy, November,

--I keep trying to think of who Marcy Baruch is like, but all
I can come up with is that she is like Marcy. Try Mercy, Mercy and then
try Thank You and maybe you'll see what I mean. Like Jann Arden or Jonell
Mosser, she is just her own incredible voice - singing and writing!

Review, Clearly
--This CD, "Clearly," was a tremendous surprise, not
because I didn't think it would be good, but because it is one of the
few new CDs I've heard recently that actually is coming from one human
being to another. The whole disc has meaning and depth, and it pulls
you in to want to listen and understand the songs more and more. Great
players, stories, and songwriting, and Marcy's voice is just stunning.
It's got range and variety on a par with Joni Mitchell, Shawn Colvin,
Tori Amos, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, etc. One of the best discs I've
heard this year. By Mike L, October, 2001

Take a ride to heaven...
by Johnny Cutshaw Rating: 10
Having
attended the CD Release Party for Clearly, and then promptly
placing the CD in my stack of hundreds, I hadnt listened to your
CD for nearly a year. Last week I had the good fortune to meet Marcy
Baruch, briefly, at another concert and was so impressed with her warmth
and magnetism I located the CD and have had it in my player ever since.
I enjoy the upbeat numbers, but the ballads tear at my heart. From the
haunting Never Know to the beautiful chorus of Simple
Enough, I have marveled at the depth of intuition and the concise
expressions of passion, joy, and pain in her lyrics. Her subtle and
sincere writing complements the range of Mary's voice. Also, I must
say that I am especially impressed with the talent of bassist Scott
Surine. I thought immediately of Stanley Clark and his hands flashing
and those crisp riffs, but upon further listening I think Scott might
have given old Jaco Pastorius a run for his money during his heyday.
Scotts work reminds me of Pastorius fluidity on Joni Mitchells
Hejira. On Up you and Scott seem to rocking
together in the same old wooden chair on a high mountain porch telling
the stars to watch out cause here we come! The jam
and peaches country flavor of several tunes appeal to my roots in rural
Ohio. But those love songs
Thanks. I hope other fortunate folks
find you and take a ride with Marcy Baruch.
